![]() ![]() It's to the point that they see it as a virtue to kill only humans and nothing else, making them a bizarre mix of this trope and Friend to All Living Things. It is something so natural to them that it is simply what they are. In fact, asking them why they kill humans is like asking a fish why it swims. The aptly named Man-Murdering Demons from Avesta of Black and White have this as their entire shtick. He unleashes the Wall Titans on Paradis Island and instructs them to destroy everyone and everything who doesn't reside on the island. ![]() A straighter example is what Eren eventually tries to achieve.Whether Titans are instinctively aware of this, which is why they eat humans, or it happens completely incidentally while Titans eat humans for some other reason is unknown. Even later, it's indicated that Titans were once humans themselves and can regain a measure of their humanity by eating a Titan Shifter. Later in the series, one character asserts that Titans aren't actually seeking to kill humans they've always sought to eat them, so when a Titan appears that is pointedly killing people without trying to eat them, something is very wrong. Then there's the mysterious Colossal Titan and Armored Titan, which seem to exist solely to destroy the Walls and ring the dinner bell for their regular, mindless kin. As a result, the human race was devoured to the brink of extinction and the survivors have spent the last century sheltered by massive Walls. Since they lack a digestive tract and draw energy from the sun, there doesn't seem to be any reason for their obsession with munching on the human race, and in fact will eventually throw them up to make space for more. The Titans seem to have an instinctive desire to eat humans.Only the Robot Buddy seems to favor this tactic. Rarely does a supercomputer decide that it should coddle humans to get them to keep supplying it with electricity and spare parts. Other times (such as in the film version of I, Robot) the supercomputer may start to become homicidal in an attempt to bring order to the world and protect humanity from itself. Otherwise, it's a case of them being too human and flying into a blind rage triggered by jealousy, fear, or maybe even spite. Sometimes, it's a product of them being too machine-like, and concluding that if one human is observed doing something that may harm the computer, then they all are a threat that can only be reconciled by killing them all off. Sentient computers also seem to inevitably arrive at the conclusion that humans as a species must be killed. Or, simply, mere apes have no hope of comprehending your motives. You could just be conveniently attracted to the creatures on screen most sympathetic to the audience, a Killer Robot out to destroy, or an Omnicidal Maniac Eldritch Abomination. That is, assuming you even have a comprehensible reason. ![]()

![]() Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer. This is the seminal memoir that resulted. In July of 1845, Henry David Thoreau walked into the woods and didn’t come out for two years, two months, and two days. However, while the former might cover a period of years or even decades, the “event” memoir zeroes in on a clearly defined period of time - for instance, a two-month walk in the woods, or a three-week mountain climb, as you’ll see below. Similar to the “experience” memoir, the “event” memoir centers on a single significant event in the author’s life. Adapted in 1999 into a critically acclaimed film starring Angelina Jolie, Girl, Interrupted enduringly recounts the author’s battle with mental illness and her ensuing 18-month stay in an American psychiatric hospital. Regarding the heat, why dont you cut a hole in the back cover and install a small. I would remove your old belt and match it to a Neopreme O ring from a local supplier of seals and O rings. Here's a video for that WOLVERINE TEMP VIDEO ![]() ![]() I ran some tests today: one of the belt pulleys is about 1/4 inch from the stepper motor and the temperature in that spot was almost 130 degrees after digtizing one 5 inch reel. I speculated that heat might cause some problems such as a melting belt. I hope they fix this problem: my other wish is that they'd make one for 16mm film ! It's easy to remove the back of the machine in case you want to check on your unit. It would be interesting to learn if anyone else with a Wolverine Reels2Digital has a melting belt even without using an adapter similar to mine. If there is any extra strain, that should not cause a belt to melt. When I built my 7-inch reel adapter I was concerned about whether that would put too much strain on the Wolverine take-up reel (which is used as a drive pulley for the adapter). The Wolverine shuts off when there's a jam, which is really nice. I've found it easy to rewind film after a break and splice it back together without losing more than a couple of frames (one of my videos covers that). Splices can jam in the film gate and the film can break - but the low speed of the Wolverine (four hours to digitize a 7 inch reel) is much more gentle on the film when it breaks. I will mention that the Wolverine is subject to some of the same pitfalls as any other film handling device, including projectors. Content is king with these old movies: if the content is right, the quality only has to be "good enough." Is this the machine you want to use to digitize 8mm movies for your Hollywood film production? No.but with some color grading in Final Cut Pro or other editing programs you could get some footage well-suited for most online viewing purposes, including documentaries. Image quality is often more about perception than technical specs and the reaction to the Wolverine-digitized movies has been totally positive. I fly drone/quadcopters and it is amazing how often something ships without key components (twice I've gotten empty envelopes from Chinese vendors).īack to the quality: I've worked professionally in digital media since the 80's and I am pleased with the kind of video produced by this $300 machine. It's a pain to deal with that but sadly Chinese-made products suffer from poor quality control and often inferior parts. I'm going to try to remove the melting belt and see if I can find a replacement online and Wolverine needs to find a better quality belt. This is a serious problem unless you like having a tar-like substance gumming up expensive gear. My latest video on the playlist gets into that. My Wolverine is melting! The drive belt is soft, sticky and melting onto the drive pulleys and other parts of the Wolverine. Okay - ONE MORE VERY SERIOUS ISSUE (shouting is intended): Here's the You Tube playlist for those: Wolverine videos Yet another issue is that the machine can't use 7 inch reels: I made an adapter to play them: It's easy to slow the video down in your editing program: slow it to 53 percent for 16 fps film or 60% for 18 fps.Īnother issue is Kodachrome: yellows are really bright: I roll back the color saturation a small amount to clean that up. The Wolverine digitizes at 30fps, which is the NTSC standard and - I understand - is hard-coded into the video chip they use. These were on the Super 8 Technicolor Super 8 Magni-Cartridges: it's a chore getting the film out of those! I've also digitized a bunch of my wife's family's movies. I digitized some old movies I've had for years and by selling those films on ebay, I paid for the Wolverine in about a week or two (I link all the ebay listings to the You Tube videos: being able to see the whole movie really makes it so much easier for buyers). Overall I love it: it is highly compressed but when I upload my movies to You Tube and watch them on a 40 inch HDTV they look great. However, the big demand now is for premium mid-size SUVs – and oddly, there hasn’t really been one on Land Rover showroom floors. And until recently, the brand’s five-pronged range, split into two (slightly) more utilitarian Land Rover-badged vehicles, and three aspirational Range Rovers, has been adequate. Everybody wants some underlying layer of off-roading ability, the brand says, but the rest is all negotiable: big, small, in-between fast, or economical comfortable, or sporty.
